چکیده

The paper presents a time-domain method for computation of sound radiation from aircraft engine sources to the far-field. The effects of nonuniform flow around the aircraft and scattering of sound by fuselage and wings are accounted for in the formulation. Our approach is based on the discretization of the inviscid flow equations through a collocation form of the Discontinuous Galerkin spectral element method. An isoparametric representation of the underlying geometry is used in order to take full advantage of the spectral accuracy of the method. Largescale computations are made possible by a parallel implementation based on message passing. Results obtained for radiation from an axisymmetric nacelle alone are compared with those obtained when the same nacelle is installed in a generic configuration, with and without a wing.

Prediction of the acoustic shielding by aircraft empennage for contra- rotating open rotors

This paper presents a numerical study of the acoustic shielding of aeroengine noise by the aircraft structure. More specifically, the engines considered are contra-rotating open rotors in pusher mode which are installed at the rear of the aircraft. Several empennage designs and engine positions are evaluated. An original method for the calculation of engine noise installation effects is present...

Level-educed Wavepacket Representation of Noise Radiation from a High-Performance Military Aircraft

An analytical wavepacket-based jet noise model has been applied for the first time to highperformance, military aircraft noise. Ground-based acoustical measurements were made of a tethered high-performance military aircraft with one engine cycling through four engine conditions. The resulting spectra have been decomposed into fine and large-scale similarity spectral components. The spatial dist...

The role of nonlinear effects in the propagation of noise from high-power jet aircraft.

To address the question of the role of nonlinear effects in the propagation of noise radiated by high-power jet aircraft, extensive measurements were made of the F-22A Raptor during static engine run-ups. Data were acquired at low-, intermediate-, and high-thrust engine settings with microphones located 23-305 m from the aircraft along several angles. Comparisons between the results of a genera...

Algebraic Multigrid Preconditioning of High-Order Spectral Elements for Elliptic Problems on a Simplicial Mesh

Algebraic multigrid is investigated as a solver for linear systems that arise from high-order spectral element discretizations. An algorithm is introduced that utilizes the efficiency of low-order finite elements to precondition the high-order method in a multilevel setting. In particular, the efficacy of this approach is highlighted on simplexes in two and three dimensions with nodal spectral ...

Experimental Evaluation of Acoustic Engine Liner Models Developed with COMSOL Multiphysics

Accurate modeling tools are needed to design new engine liners capable of reducing aircraft noise. The purpose of this study is to determine if a commercially-available finite element package, COMSOL Multiphysics, can be used to accurately model a range of different acoustic engine liner designs, and in the process, collect and document a benchmark dataset that can be used in both current and f...
